1. We are glad to announce that Democritus University of Thrace and University of Cyprus are scientific co-organizers of our Conference.
2. The deadline for the notifications of participation and abstract submissions is extended to July 15^th, 2010. The abstracts of the articles should consist of ½ to 1 page of text, written in Times New Roman, font-size 11 and single line-height.
3. The participants should declare whether they wish to be hosted in a hotel by the Organizing Committee and, if so, for how many overnights. This declaration is mandatory, in order the hotel bookings to be made on time.
4. The coverage of the travelling expenses cannot exceed € 150 per participant, regardless of his/her means of transport.

The International Conference of Balkan Historical Studies is organized every four years in Kavala, by our Historical & Literary Archive. This Conference, which is the 3^rd, should have been held in September 2009. However, the date was transfered to 17 - 18 September 2010, due to difficulties in the accomodation of the great number of the conventioneers and their escorts. The final dates of the Conference have been mentioned previously, and there have been some registration requests already recorded.
The title and topic of the previous conference was: KAVALA AND THE BALKANS, KAVALA AND THE AEGEAN. The title of our 3^rd Conference is:

The Conference will include two separate labour Sections. The topic of the first Section is:
KAVALA AND THE BALKANS, KAVALA AND THRACE: HISTORY - ART - CULTURE
                                        From antiquity until early 19^th century.

The topic of the second Section is:
KAVALA AND THE BALKANS, KAVALA AND THRACE: HISTORY - ART - CULTURE
                                                            Modern History.

Anyone interested in participating the Conference should send an abstract of his/her counsel to the address: Historical & Literary Archives of Kavala, 183 Omonoias Str., Postal Box 1548, Postal Code 651 10, Kavala, Greece, until the end of March, 2010. By that time the Scientific Committee will gather in order to evaluate and approve the submitted counsels. Travel and accommodation fees are covered by the organizers of the Conference. The full papers of the counsels should be handed over to the organizers in digital format until the end of 2010, so as to facilitate the publication of the Proceedings.
The Proceedings of the previous (2^nd) Conference have been circulated in 3 volumes of approximately 500 pages each (see Bookstore - Publications of H.L.A.K.).
It sould be noted that President of the Scientific Committee is Professor and President of the Department of History and Ethnology of Democritus University of Thrace Dr. Georgios Papazoglou. By the participation of Dr. Papazoglou, Democritus University of Thrace becomes a scientific partner and co-organizer of the Conference. Also, Conference Registrar is once again Mr. Nikolaos Roudometof, President of the Historical & Literary Archives of Kavala, by which this series of Conferences has been organized.

Dr. Victor Roudometof, founding member and Vice-President of H.L.A.K., was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Sociology at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Cyprus. His worthy promotion is a highly honorary act, in recognition of his excellent international academic career. Pioneering regarding the Greek status, we have introduced the feature of the immediate purchase of some of our publications in electronic format (see menu Electronic Archives). This measure is gradually being expanded to all of our publications, as well as in the rich and extremely interesting material of our Archives (documents, photographs, maps etc).

We have decided to establish the measure of the Assistant Members of H.L.A.K., because our fellows ask us persistently to offer their services to our Archives. We make clear that the registration and participation is absolutely free of charge, without subscriptions or dues of any kind. The only obligation of the Assistant Members will be to choose the Department of H.L.A.K. where they can offer their personal services, in accordance with their personal background or skills. Currently, the internal Regulation of the operation of the Assistant Members is about to be edited, in order all actions to be held under an explicit framework.
Our target is the registration of 500 members, a fact that will reflect not only the acceptance of H.L.A.K.'s activities in our region, but also its appreciation by our fellow citizens.
